50 Roller Derby Queens Jam Their Way to Top of the Entry List!

Fifty roller derby queens from Hot Springs have jammed their way to the front of the pack of entries for the First Ever 16th Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade® on March 17, 2019, in downtown Hot Springs.

The Downtown Derby Dolls elbowed their way to the top of the list by submitting their entry form to Visit Hot Springs about six months before the hilarious parade down 98-foot Bridge Street kicks off.

“Fifty skaters will take their place in the 16th annual parade,” said Leysa Lowery, human resources director for Visit Hot Springs, after she received the entry form. “They’re the first, but we’ll have 39 more entries pretty soon.”

Other entries are now being accepted for the March 17 parade.

Only 40 parade entries are accepted each year, so people who plan to march, dance, strut, ride a funny vehicle, build a float, sing, walk backwards, show off a green dog or otherwise participate in this world-famous celebration are urged to contact Leysa Lowery at Visit Hot Springs as soon as possible.

Participants are asked to submit an official entry form to Lowery at the Hot Springs Convention Center, 134 Convention Blvd., Hot Springs National Park, AR 71901, by the entry deadline of March 1, 2019. All entries must be approved by the official parade committee.

“We have limited the number of entries for several years because of the logistics of the event,” Lowery said. “So anyone who is thinking about participating in this fun event is urged to get on the ball and contact me.”

Lowery can be reached at 501-321-2027 or by visiting the Visit Hot Springs offices in the Hot Springs Convention Center.

Participation will be closed once the 40-unit limit is reached.
